Frequently Asked Questions
What is a Slip Disc or Herniated Disc?
A slip disc (also called a herniated or prolapsed disc) occurs when the soft, gel-like center of a spinal disc bulges or leaks through its outer layer. This can press on nearby nerves, leading to pain, numbness, or weakness—most commonly in the lower back or neck.
What causes a Slip Disc?
Prolonged sitting, incorrect posture, lack of exercise, heavy lifting, obesity, or degenerative changes with age can all contribute to disc herniation. Ayurveda views it as a Vata Vyadhi—a condition caused by vitiation of Vata dosha that dries and weakens the supportive spinal tissues (Asthi, Majja, and Snayu).
What are the common symptoms?
Lower back or neck pain
Pain radiating to arms or legs (sciatica-like pain)
Tingling or numbness in limbs
Weakness or reduced mobility
Pain increasing after sitting or standing for long durations
How does Ayurveda explain Slip Disc?
In Ayurveda, the condition corresponds to Gridhrasi or Trika Graha, where aggravated Vata dosha leads to degeneration and dryness in the spinal region. The displaced disc irritates nerves, just as Vata causes pain and stiffness by obstructing the Srotas (channels).
How long does the treatment take?
The treatment duration varies based on the grade of herniation:
Mild to Moderate cases: 21–30 days (IPD or structured OPD program)
Severe or chronic cases: 45–60 days, followed by home-based rehabilitation
Can Slip Disc be cured without surgery?
Yes. At Sukhayu Ayurved, over 90% of patients recover without surgery through Panchakarma, Ayurvedic medicines, and postural correction. Surgery is reserved only for those with severe neurological deficits not responding to conservative care.
What makes Sukhayu’s approach different?
No blind therapy — every treatment is personalized after reviewing MRI and dosha assessment.
